Feeling stuffed from the Holidays...

The Holidays are a hard time to maintain our weight. With crazy schedules, holiday parties, and all the good food around, it is easy to fill up on high starch and high sugar snacks and treats. Once it's all over, we're 5 - 10 pounds heavier, sluggish, and feeling guilty.

Why not make it easier on yourself and eat a high protein/high fiber meal before you go out or even on the run. Life of Riley Foods has prepared meals for you and your family to fill up on to help you avoid the over consumption of cheese puffs and fruit cakes!

New Products!

Scallion Buns ($4)

These may look a bit more like pancakes (and can be eaten just like a potato cake) but contain only paleo-friendly ingredients including young coconut meat, almonds, zucchini, egg whites, flaxseeds, and scallions.

Will go great with a burger, salmon burger, or used for a SANDWICH (yes, you can still eat a sandwich, just watch what you pile on it!!). Add eggs and ham for a great breakfast sandwich.

Breakfast Pancakes w/ Berry Compote ($7)

I mentioned the word "pancake" above, so yes, these are the buns minus the scallions. Now you can be on the paleo diet and still have a fabulous Sunday breakfast.

These are slightly sweetened with vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey and topped with a berry compote. Yummy!

* You may find these prices to be, well, a bit pricey... The truth is, the ingredients in them are much more expensive then, let's say, a box of Bisquick. Refined flours and sugars are cheap, and although they taste great, they don't do a whole lot for ya....

Inquire to abigailknowles@gmail.com if interested in just the batter.

A Bit of Raw Info

Raw Food Diet: A diet based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, nuts, dried fruit, and seaweed.

When foods are heated above 116 degrees F it is believed that the enzymes in food are destroyed. These enzymes are needed to assist in the digestion and absorption of food. Cooking is also thought to diminish the nutritional value and "life force" of food.

Proponents of the raw food diet believe it has numerous health benefits, including:

  • Increased energy
  • Improved skin appearance
  • Better digestion
  • Weight loss
  • Reduced risk of heart disease

In the raw foods diet most all of the foods are made from scratch. Many ingredients may be new to you, such as Rejuvelac, sprouted flour, date sugar, young coconut milk, carob powder and Celtic sea salt. Most people who follow the raw foods diet will eat 75% of their foods raw. Just incorporating more raw ingredients into ones diet can have tremendous health benefits.
